falling down stairs
since previous weeks didn't bring their share of action i started this one by falling partway down the stairs, banging+bruising myself in a variety of unusual and downright silly places, making it oddly painful to do the simplest (and most unexpected) things. like sit/lie down. but iago's (i think?) coming along, and i have at least 1day completely off with grims and other treats coming soon. plus, grims is getting better. can't complain.i have a lot to do, work+house-wise, in the next few days but sunday my mind will be @ the beach.caught myself checking over my shoulder as i typed those words- i know that making plans is my downfall (brilliant movie, by the way; saw it as edward3 research) but the plan has no requirements i can't provide myself with minimal effort, so i don't think even my birthday can make it fail. i had to say it out loud(?) so the universe knows i'm not trying to rock the boat, just have a nice time.walk good.
showstopper
vogue new glasses (never mind that it took a full 5 miserable days, i took that sourness and made lime sorbet) plus rugburn+fried fingers mostly healed, noir safely(?) in the hands of happy(?) editors, i'm playing iago in the world premiere of hamthello the day before my birthday, and my last d.c. performance will be in 1 of my favourite american plays with 1 of my favourite local companies...it would seem that although i've had too much on my plate to blog, things are progressing smoothly. but that's just how it seems.1week of august left and we not even close to putting the house on the market. my show closes january13 and ideally we'd already be ready to jet the 14th. that's having added 3weeks to our intened d.c. stay to accomodate the show, on top of the assumption that we can afford to do so- we'd originally planned to leave between the end of grims' semester and christmas- and i just don't know if we'll make. but life short, so in the meanwhile...i mostly skipped d.c. carnival as usual, in spite of it being my last, but managed to see both manu chao and machel montano live in one 24hour period. i was disappointed that neither brought their horn side, especially lame with grims pushing through pain, but we know he wouldn'ta missed it for anything.i saw 3canal perform in n.y.+d.c., the former being the gig where warrenman tore his meniscus while grappling with an enthusiastic winer, the latter delivered with cane; plus, rather hastily, mos def, from right in front the stage. he was beautiful.and all this after seeing the marleys the other day.i also saw the naked macbeth that i was almost in and confirmed that i made the right choice- nudity was fine, as anticipated (i am many things; shy, is not one) but the 1st time i saw naked snatch hit bare stage, my hygeine ocd kicked into high gear. it was a good show with good performances (except 1, unfortunately, and it prevented the entire production from reaching what it could've) but i cannot bear the thought that my naked taint might sit somewhere slightly sweatied by others' naked taints and somewhat muddied by feet and bodypaint.live naked macbeth foreshadowed my unexpectedly catching some televised- hbo reran their realsex from october27.2001, bedroom tricks and treats which included a naked-stripper musical macbeth (at least, the witches)- amusing, but ruined by the emcee seemingly instructing the audience to give a standing ovation- nothing irks me like forcing undeserved ovations. the whole episode almost seemed like foreshadowing, between equus (coincidentally, with company of abovementioned naked macbeth) with a pony play segment, and another on d.c.'s burlesque club55 (riveting enough to be unspoiled by interspersed footage of 55ish owner, deloris dickson)...i keep saying i'ma blog about doing edward3, but truth is, all i have to say is that it was very cool, i saw strong+surprising work everywhere i looked, and a wonderful surprise that with a cast greater than 25 squeezed into dressing rooms that fit 16 in a squeeze, i didn't hate everybody and we got along with no drama. i want to blog about it because i enjoyed it. that was what i wanted to say.the last mentionable before i can consider myself caught up and moving on is that it weirds me out enough to possibly switch email accounts that i've now been self-spammed thrice. and also receive spam from "nazi"- how many people you think they catch with that one?walk good.
it's already been broughten!
because the rugburn and singed fingers (with the funny part only added to that post a day later when the pain abated enough for me to remember) weren't enough, today i broke my glasses in the simple act of taking them off, while without health insurance to pay for new ones, and work all day saturday which means nothing's happening to fix the problem until monday. they broke in 2 @ the nosebridge such that one piece has nothing for tape to cling to, and thus i can't even tape them together in the interim. grrr.walk good.
expect the unexpected delays (24hour postscript)
as if uncontent with rugburn and bruised knees, last night @ dinner with covey+ganz i grabbed what i unreasonably expected was a wooden skewer (to steady it) and discovered it was metal, right off the grill. so in spite of being mentally back, i'm unsure how much typing i'll be able to manage for a few days. we'll see...maybe i'll figure out the template switch in the meanwhile.walk good.ps: yesterday my fingers hurt so bad (burned bad enough that a single second without ice set my whole arm+head throbbing for the 1st 6hours until i fell asleep) i forgot to mention the ridiculous part- within 15minutes of me burning myself covey did the exact same thing on another skewer, so we both sat around holding frozen peas all night while trying to manoeuvre silverware+food, wineglasses+spliff...
so i'ma just act like the last month didn't exist...
...and jump right in with the stupid fact that while not as bad as the pulled groin from kungfu macbeth, the bruised knees and rugburn from savagely killing frank and banged up shoulder from getting gunned down shortly thereafter during sunday night's reading of brenton's romans in britain are mighty annoying.i can't remember the last non-sex-related rugburn i acquired. not that it wasn't worth it.talk soon. walk good.
